Typically, neck pain develops over time secondary to postural stress and/or lack of exercise and poor dietary habits.  Postural stress or lack of exercise leads to areas of spinal joint restriction as well as muscle tightness and weakness.  Additionally, poor dietary habits contribute to chronic inflammation which promotes pain.
A combination of treatments is best when trying to obtain neck or cervical pain relief.  For example, chiropractic manipulation is best to address areas of spinal restriction.  A specific exercise program or physical therapy protocol is key for correcting weak muscles.  Massage is excellent to effectively address over tight muscles.  Nutritional supplementation is extremely beneficial to combat the negative affects of chronic inflammation.
